Unfortunately we cannot accept returns for products that fall under the following categories:

1. Contact latex gloves with protective palm plastic removed (including damage to the latex upon removing the plastic)
2. Gloves with Glove ID (unless the glove has a genuine defect or fault upon arrival)
3. Products returned after 30 days since purchase
4. Gloves with wear or deterioration that is deemed fair use - latex is a natural material that can and will experience wear from the very first use, the level of wear will vary per keeper depending on their age, technique, playing surface and much more
5. Gloves with wear or deterioration caused by not preparing and caring for them in line with the glove care instructions
6. Gloves not purchased from theoneglove.com or our international sister sites (USA and AUS)

Accepted

All our gloves are crafted by hand (with the help of some glove bots). We produce over a hundred thousand pairs every year so every now and then some faulty ones will sneak through, in which case we'll be on hand to assess your case and either refund, replace or award some form of credit.

1. Gloves arriving with a genuine fault in the construction including:
   • Open stitching/holes 
   • Twisted fingers
   • An issue with the internal construction causing scratching or irritation
2. Wrong items or sizes delivered
3. Gloves unused and in original packaging within 30 days of purchase 
4. Gloves where the grip/latex is not performing after properly activating and pre-washing

Keepers Ask: "I haven't used my gloves much and they are already starting to wear down"

It is important to understand the nature of goalkeeper gloves and latex palms before use. Gloves should be viewed as a consumable that need replacing multiple times a year.

What you need to know

1. Latex is meant to degrade and wear down
2. It can happen from the very first use, regardless of price or specification
3. Your glove will perform until there is no latex left
4. Latex wear is not a sign of a fault or "bad" product
5. Latex will wear quicker on hard surfaces (artificial, dry summers, end of season pitches)
6. How long a glove lasts is not an indication of latex quality

The best comparison that can be made is that glove latex is like a motor-racing tyre. Soft, grippy and will naturally wear away and blister until the grip goes. However there are "harder" tyres available, which will provide worse grip and performance but will wear down slower.

Our gloves are used by pros in the Premier League, so they have to be of the highest quality and offer the best possible grip in all conditions. Latex is a very soft natural product that is subject to wear and abrasion over time, which cannot be avoided.

How long should a pair of gloves actually last?

This is very tricky and a bit of a "how long is a piece of string?" question.

• A pro will go through 30+ pairs a season
• The average keeper should expect to use 3-5 pairs
• Young developing keepers can churn through gloves

How long they last depends on many factors, every keeper's experience will be different depending on:

• Age of keeper
• Technique
• Playing surface
• How they were prepared
• How often they train and play
• If proper glove care is followed
• Volume of saves and how busy your defence is making you!
• Luck

It is possible to own two of the exact same pair of gloves, and see one pair last one month while the other lasts four months.

Real World Examples

This is not a faulty glove

We often have images sent in like these from parents or younger keepers, saying that they are ruined or would like a replacement pair. We appreciate it can be hard to hear for the first time (especially for Mum & Dad paying for them!) but this pair looks completely normal, is in great condition and has a tonne of life in it - it would not be eligible for for a refund.

Younger keepers will get through gloves a lot quicker than experienced/older keepers, due to the nature of still learning their technique. Latex is soft and if they are landing on their palms and grinding a hard surface, it will naturally wear away. Particularly if proper glove prep and care has not been followed. 

Unfortunately we cannot be responsible for naturally caused abrasion. This is due to personal use and these gloves would not be eligible for a refund and still have plenty of life in them.

We always see keepers confused on how to wash goalkeeper gloves, or even asking if you NEED to wash gloves. The answer is...ABSOLUTELY.

Washing your gloves means they...

• Grip better
• Last longer
• Smell better 

A dry and dirty glove is going to cost you money and potentially a goal!

When should I wash my gloves?

1. When you first receive them (a "pre-wash" removes preservatives in the latex and activates the grip)
2. 24 hours before a game (not essential as long as you dampen/splash them before the game)
3. Immediately after use

How to wash your gloves:

Our good friends across-the-pond Keeperstop have created a handy video which breaks down all the steps below. 

1. Fill a sink with warm water (a maximum of 30º C), not too hot, not too cold
2. Rinse and soak the gloves
3. If you are using a glove cleaner, apply 4-6 pumps and rub in
4. The gloves should be washed by hand, using your thumbs to scrub dirt off lightly
5. Leave your gloves to dry naturally, it should take around a day. For more information on how to dry your gloves, visit our article here.

⚠️ It is not necessary, but applying a glove cleaner to the gloves will help ensure that all of the dirt is removed and make the process quicker. Ensure you follow the instructions of the solution you have purchased.

Which glove cleaner is safe to use?

We only recommend using our Glove Rescue Wash with a pair of OGs (because we know and trust it!). Our foam is a specifically formulated solution for the latex palms of your gloves, meaning it eliminates any unnecessary or damaging properties typically associated with traditional soap or detergent.

We put gloves under the microscope to reveal the tiny pores invisible to the naked eye - if these get filled with dirt, sweat or bacteria it means moisture can't get into the latex to activate it!

When you first receive any pair of goalkeeper gloves you should pre-wash them to activate the grip. 

Why do I need to pre-wash?

Pre-washing removes any preservatives within the latex and helps open up the pores that allow moisture in, which activates the grip.

How do I activate the grip?

We have a handy glove wash guide here that explains everything. Make sure you allow them to air dry naturally, in a stable room temperature and outside of direct sunlight. 

How do I know the pre-wash was done correctly?

The water in your sink should turn a sort of yellowish/milky colour. This is the preservatives coming out of the latex. We recommend emptying the sink and carrying out the washing process again just to see if you are still seeing the water change colour. 

If the water is clear or the colour change is very minimal you have successfully activated your grip. 

Maintaining your grip

Latex is not designed to be dry. A dry latex means it will be brittle and more subject to wear, tear and flaking. You should continue to pre-wash your gloves 24 hours before your game and if necessary, dampen slightly during the game (this is why you see the pros squirt water or spit on their gloves). 

This doesn't mean your gloves should be soaking and have surface water on them, it just means the latex should be holding moisture. 

Although we do not recommend spitting, because the bacteria and enzymes that will enter the latex's pours will negatively impact the lifespan of the grip. 

It sucks to have to say goodbye to your favourite pair of OGs, but unfortunately goalkeeper gloves are perishable and you should expect to use at least 3-5 pairs a season.

It can be an expensive position to play, which is why we started this brand two decades ago - to deliver pro grade gloves that don't two-foot your wallet. We were the original alternative and after two decades in the game we know a thing or two about making your gloves last longer, ultimately saving you money.

The essentials

If you fail at these, then you are literally throwing money away! Look after your gloves and they'll look after you. Below are the must-follows to get better life and grip.

1. Pre-wash them on arrival to activate the latex - learn how  
2. Dry them properly, naturally and out of sunlight - learn how
3. Store them properly, if not you may cause damage to the palms - learn how
4. Dampen the palm before and during game (dry latex = brittle latex = tears easier)
5. Always wash them immediately after use, ideally with a glove wash - learn how

If you follow this your gloves should not only last longer, but perform and grip better too.

The tips & tricks

You can add these lesser known tips to your regime to get even more mileage out of your OGs.

1. When wearing your gloves in training or non-competitive environments, try and avoid using the palms to pick yourself up off the ground. Try to use your fists to push yourself back up to avoid the palms of your gloves seeing contact with the ground. Using your palm will help you spring back up quicker, but you can minimise wear during non-game situations using the fist method above
   
   
   
   
2. Relegate worn down gloves to training and keep a fresh pair for match days, continue this cycle as and when your match-day pair eventually need upgrading  
   
   
3. Don't grab or pull on nets with the gloves, this can easily tear chunks off! 
   
   
   
   
4. Improve your technique to avoid landing or grinding your palms on the ground as you land 
   
   
5. Use a cut that isn't so tight - this comes down to preference, but tighter stitched cuts like Negative or our SL naturally wear quicker at the finger tips, it is a trade off we have to accept for the enhanced feel
   
   
6. Remove them properly, you probably didn't realise that you have been removing your gloves wrong and risk ripping them at the fingers, gloves are a textile product like clothing and not made of kevlar! Treat them right. 
   
   

Playing surfaces

Unless the glove you have chosen is using a specialist latex for astro/durability, then no glove is designed for use on artificial turf. You can absolutely use them on this turf but just be prepared to get less durability out of the palm. 4G is HARD and like sandpaper on palms. 

We all hate doing it, but that piece of plastic is what locks in that moisture and beautiful grip during production of our Contact palms. Meaning you can peel and play (although we always recommend a pre-wash with any glove).

Care must be taken when removing the plastic palm covering, check out this handy video below to see the safest way to do so. And be careful not to rush and knick any bits of latex off! But if you do, don't panic, your glove will still perform perfectly until there is no latex physically left.

This comes down to personal preference and what you are trying to achieve.

Long term we would always recommend that you train yourself and your technique without finger-spines. As it allows greater flexibility and control of the ball BUT (although uncommon) we do even have some pros that use spines.

✅ What spines are great for

1. Preventing "hyper-extension" of your fingers
2. Providing extra protection for punching balls
3. Providing extra protection for individual injured fingers
4. Recreational 5 or 7-a-side where the focus is on parrying or punching
5. An initial confidence boost for first-time keepers

❌ What spines are not great for

1. Long term technique and feel of the ball
2. Young developing keepers
3. Preventing any kind of fractures or breaks (they are for hyper-extension only)

What about for children?

Long term we would advise young keepers develop their technique without Finger Spines, it will be more beneficial however we appreciate parents want to protect their children from any form of injury.

Developing a reliance on spines can mean:

1. They never truly develop the natural feel for the ball
2. They'll learn habits focused on punching and parrying, not claiming

This doesn't mean you shouldn't purchase a glove with Finger Spines and ultimately every pair of OGs that has this feature will have an easy-access pouch to remove them if you don't wish to use them, or simply store them away just incase. 

Spines can be great for first-time keepers looking for that extra confidence boost or protection, but when possible you should progress and upgrade them out of spines.
